AmSafe Aviation restraints

Commercial and General Aviation Restraints

With more than 30 years in the aviation restraint business, AmSafe has delivered millions of passenger seat belts and flight crew restraint systems worldwide. AmSafe restraints are original equipment on all of the biggest commercial and regional airframe manufacturer’s aircraft including Airbus Industries, ATR, The Boeing Company, Bombardier Aerospace, British Aerospace, CASA, Dornier, Embraer and more. Our seat belts can also be found on the United States’ Air Force One.

AmSafe’s innovative work with advanced webbings, load limiting devices, and dampened inertia reel mechanisms assure that the most advanced restraint technologies are available to our customers. AmSafe engineers have developed the next-generation of multi-point crew, flight attendant, and passenger restraint products. Advanced materials, manufacturing techniques, and dynamic testing combine to produce products at the leading edge of restraint technology.

AmSafe has seat belt webbing colors to match virtually any interior, with over 100 colors to choose from. Combined with plating and engraving seatbelt design, possibilities are limited only by imagination. AmSafe is the clear choice of interior designers searching for the perfect restraint to complement modern aircraft interiors.

CARES (Child Aviation Restraint System)

AmSafe's Child Aviation Restraint System (CARES) is the world's first passenger restraint system specifically designed for children ages 1 to 4 weighing between 22 and 44 pounds. This supplemental restraint interfaces with AmSafe's standard seat belt product providing a low-cost, easy and effective solution for improved child passenger safety. It weighs one pound and fits into a 6” stuff sack which makes it portable, simple to install, adjustable to virtually any size airplane seat, and usable in any seat in an airplane except for exit rows. The child sits in the airplane seat while CARES is being installed. CARES is the world’s first alternative to a car seat.

AmSafe Aviation Inflatable Restraint (AAIR)

After five years of development, the AmSafe Aviation Inflatable Restraint (AAIR) is now FAA-certified and flying aboard our customers’ aircraft. During takeoff, approach, and landing accidents, passengers often receive head trauma. Our innovative and patented 16g inflatable restraint system will help protect passengers during these types of accidents and help reduce head trauma and injury. This new technology will assist seat manufacturers, airframers, and air carriers in meeting new occupant safety standards established by the FAA and JAA.
Now available for transport category and general aviation aircraft, the AmSafe Aviation Inflatable Restraint (AAIR) can dramatically reduce fatalities and head/neck injuries in survivable aircraft accidents.

The AAIR looks and operates like standard AmSafe seat belts. An integral airbag stored in the fixed half seat belt will deploy and protect the occupant during a catastrophic event. Once the system’s multiple sensors detect an imminent 16g/26g event, the system’s inflator is initiated, creating a volume of gas to deploy a large airbag “pillow” up and away from the occupant's lap belt within milliseconds.

Increases Survivability by Lowering Head Injury Criteria (HIC) Factor
AAIR protects occupants in a survivable accident by cushioning and diminishing the impact. HIC factor is guaranteed to be reduced to less than 1,000 units, which is the threshold of probability of permanent injury.
